Avery Nielsen-Webb is a Canadian-American photographer. He earned his BFA from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and is currently pursuing his MFA at the University of Connecticut. His practice investigates how industrial and digital systems reshape perceptions of nature, questioning the power of technological advancement.
Nielsen-Webb uses photography as a foundational medium within his practice, branching into other forms such as satellite imagery, new media collage, video, animation, projection, and sculpture depending on the project's needs. His work is shaped through collaborations with scientists, lawmakers, and historians. He draws on the research to construct viewing experiences that move between aesthetics and data.
Nielsen-Webbs has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the United States and Canada as well as in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Germany, and Lithuania. Prominent exhibitions include at the William Benton Museum, the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art Museum, M.K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art, and Art Space Toronto. He was recently recognized internationally with an honorable mention in Vogue’s CreateCOP29 online exhibition and is held in the collection of Toronto Metropolitan University, Ted Rogers School of Management in Toronto.
