New Clear Power

This project examines the environmental consequences of nuclear industrialism in Washington State, focusing on sites like the Satsop Nuclear Power Plant, Columbia Generating Station, Hanford Site, and the Midnite Mine on the Spokane Reservation. The Satsop Nuclear Power Plant, which was never completed and ultimately abandoned, stands as a symbol of the failed promise of nuclear energy in the region. Meanwhile, sites like the Hanford Site, which holds over 56 million gallons of radioactive liquid waste, and the still-operational Columbia Generating Station, which produces spent nuclear fuel hazardous for thousands of years, highlight the ongoing risks of nuclear industrialism. The Midnite Mine, a former uranium mine, continues to contaminate local water sources, impacting Indigenous lands. It highlights the need for greater awareness of the long-lasting consequences of nuclear industries and the imperative to confront and address the ongoing environmental and health risks they present.
